April the 25th.
The church today celebrates the Feast of St. Mark.
Tradition tells us that he was a sharer in the missionary work of St. Peter. In the gospel today, we are reminded of how Jesus commissioned the apostles after his resurrection. In this feast, we recall how this was carried out in the life of Peter and Mark.
Reflecting on what scripture relates to us about the both of them, we see that they had their moments when their faith seems to have been less than perfect. Perhaps that is shown to us to give us courage when we need extra strength.
We have the same commission to proclaim the resurrection as they had. We face similar difficulties and moments of weakness as they did. We need renewed strength.
