The Franciscan Friars

The Friars that serve at Assumption Church and it’s ministries are part of a community known as The Order of Friars Minor Conventual or Franciscan Friars Conventual. They belong to a the province (region) of Our Lady of the Angels of the Order. The Franciscans have been present in Syracuse since the earliest years of the church. The Friars live together the Gospel life where everything is held in common and from which the Friars go out in ministry. The Friars gather twice a day to pray as a community, share common meals, and spend time together as brothers. There are several Friars who serve in the ministries at Assumption as well as at Syracuse University, St. Joseph’s Health Center and in counseling.

The Franciscan Way of life presents a model of equality among all those who profess it. Some are called to serve as leaders in different capacities. These Friars serve in roles to help shape and guide our ministry of sharing the Good News of love and reconciliation.
