March the 10th.
The readings today revealed the way in which jealousy and envy keep people from growing in love. Joseph's brothers deny him the brotherly love he deserved because they were jealous of the favor he had with his father.
The workers in the parable story were envious of the material wealth the owner had and refused to give him the fruits of his land. They even took from him the life of his son.
The discipline of fasting teaches us the values of life and helps us to avoid extremes of jealousy and envy. As we make our journey, we have an opportunity to refocus and make progress.
