March the 30th.
The gospel reading today gives us a promise. Jesus states that if we keep his word, we will not see death. He speaks of much more than mere physical death. He refers to the death of sin in all that separates us from God.
In overcoming the physical death he endured on the cross, he also overcame all the other deaths that sin has brought about in this world. As we live and make our way in this world. We all experience these. We know separations, we know failures and disappointments. We are familiar with sickness, loneliness, and discouragement.
Our return to hope gives us focus, which helps us to deal with and overcome these.
Lord, thank you for giving me the means to overcome death.
