March the 28th.
In the gospel selection today, we again meet Jesus in confrontation with the Scribes and Pharisees. Jesus points out their failures, but not to condemn them. Rather he does so to invite them to change.
As we continue our return to hope, has Jesus pointed out any failures in our life to us during this part of our journey? If so, it is not to condemn us. It is rather to invite us to return to him and seek his pardon and mercy. All that we are preparing to recall came about so that he could offer us pardon and mercy.
This is the Jesus the Pharisees met. This is the Jesus whom we encounter as we make our journey of Lent this year.
