You Are Worth It - A Reflection for the Fifth Sunday of Lent
Happy Lent! We are over halfway through Lenten journey and ever closer to the Solemn celebrations of Holy Week, Easter and the entire Easter Season (which last for 50 days).
Last week we were reminded of God’s love for us in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.”
This week we are reminded of God’s fidelity to us in Jeremiah 31:33 “I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” This is one of my favorite passages in all of Scripture. I love this passage because I love to imagine the image of God saying “I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Just as much as we need to see ourselves as the people of God, God also sees us as his people in return. How awesome is that?!?
And if that isn’t awesome enough, God says ‘I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more.” This is a promise of God’s fidelity and faithfulness that lasts even today through the Sacrament of Confession.
Recently, I led a three-day mission about the Sacrament of Confession and I want to to invite you as I invited them to come to the sacrament. Why you might be wondering? Because you are worth it. God created us in God’s image and God yearns to be our God and for us to be God’s people. In the Sacrament of Confession not only does God forgive us our sin but remembers it no more. What an awesome mystery of our faith life!
We are offer Confessions weekly at The Franciscan Place Monday-Thursday from 2:00-4:00 PM and Saturdays 1:00-3:00 PM, as well as during Holy Week with the same schedule and additional hours on Good Friday from 2:00-4:00 PM. Know that you will encounter loving and gentle confessors there.
Give yourself this Lenten gift, if you haven’t already, of receiving the Sacrament of Confession: You Are Worth It!
PS: Happy Solemnity of St. Joseph on March 19th! St. Joseph… Pray for us!
