25 Years of Real Gospel Service

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In today’s Gospel we hear stories about individuals who face hopeless situations, turn to Jesus with faith and in return discover that the impossible is very much possible. They show resilience and strength to embrace this faith when all seems lost. It is this call to embrace great faith in the face of impossible odds that the over 200 young men and women who have said yes to a year of service with FrancisCorps have answered.

For 25 years, these young men and women have met injustice, poverty, inequality and despair, with love, kindness, joy and above all: hope. Hope in the knowledge that through their faith in Christ, the impossible will be possible. That they will make a difference even when all seems lost. The difference made, however, is not always what we first envision. When we truly have faith in Christ, we relinquish control and allow God to transform us and others as He sees fit. As St. Paul reminds us, when we share our abundance, others share their abundance with us and supply for our needs. When FrancisCorps volunteers, or any of us enter into relationship with those we serve, our faith in the transformative power of Christ is rewarded in the transformation that takes place within ourselves. Service ceases to be a one-way street and the Holy Spirit is allowed to perform the impossible for everyone, deepening our relationships with each other and with Christ.

It is with this hope and faith that we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of FrancisCorps this weekend. We have hope that our faith in Christ can allow us to not just transform the lives of others but transform ourselves in the process, helping to bring the comfort and love of our heavenly Father a little bit closer to ourselves and those around us. We want to thank you all for the important part you play in this mission through your prayers, support and kindness. Over the past 25 years, FrancisCorps volunteers have provided over 385,400 hours of service at 34 service sites in two countries but through it all we have called Assumption Church home. We are blessed to be a part of this community and we want you all to know this milestone is as much yours as it is ours. Know that we always pray for you all and will continue to for another 25 years!

Peace and All Good!
